Survival of the Spotlightworthy!

Ever wonder why we’ve heard of Darwin…
Is it because he was the best at what he did or was it because he understood how to step into the spotlight?
Recently read a fascinating fact based fictional account of Darwin’s Voyage of the Beagle and the controversy surrounding his writings, (yeah, you guessed it, one of my kids is doing a project on Darwin) and it occured to me that we probably never would have heard of the guy if he hadn’t been good at promoting himself. There were plenty of other guys during his time and even before him who had similar ideas. But he was able to get the word out. He had a good tagline (although not entirely clear that he came up with it)– “survival of the fittest”.
I know we don’t like to think of things that way. We like to think we’ve heard of stuff ’cause it’s important. But even Deepak Chopra had a great publicist!
An expert is not someone who knows what he knows. An expert is someone who is known for knowing what he knows.
I’d like to thank a few people who have been helping me get known for what I know. They’ve been spreading the word about my book on their blogs, on their websites and in their podcasts, teleseminars and newsletters.
