Even a Real Estate Agent Can Do It!

So, I’m waiting for paint to dry today & caught a particularly weird show on HGTV. Young beautiful people selling beautiful real estate to other rich young beautiful people…all kinda surreal, but I did notice how one of the agents used drama to sell his stuff.
He’s in negotiation with some agent. His client wants 3.8 million for the property. Her client won’t pay a penny more than 3.2 million. Final offer.
So he hops onto the boardroom table (you shoulda seen her face!) to demonstrate how far apart they were. “We’re over here at 3.8 million.” Then he sprints all the way to the other end of the hugest boardroom table I’ve even seen, “You’re way over there at 3.2.” And then he asks how they have to work together to make this work.
Result? Three “final” offers later, everyone’s happy at 3.5 mill.
They celebrate soon after at a champagne extravaganza. Waiter walks over with a silver platter, lifts the dome and uncovered to the sounds of oohs and ahs, nestled in a fine bed of rose pedals, the keys are presented. All very theatrical.
Next episode. Paint not dry yet. Same agent, broker, I don’t know what he was, lists some land ’cause his businesswoman grandma tells him land fares better in a recession, and agent guy uses more theatrics to impress the other agents. First he blows up an artist rendering of the humongous 9000 square foot house the developer/seller had been planning to build there pre-recession, just to show how a property the land can hold.
Later, one of the agents tells him he’d love to play golf there, giving super-agent an idea. He brings in a small putting green, some clubs and a ball and has an open house for agents on the bare land challenging them to see if they can hit a golf ball off the property. They can’t of course, ’cause it’s SOOOOOOO big, the whole point of the exercise. Land doesn’t sell this time, but the agent certainly knows how to put the SHOW into business.
How ’bout you?
