The Twitter Lie!

I’ll follow you; You follow me
We’re a happy family
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you
Won’t you say you’ll follow me too?
Isn’t that a Barney song?
It’s a big fat lie.
Your “trade ya” followers aren’t really following you.
Yeah, they’re “following” you technically so they can broadcast to you.
Why not be upfront about it? Like Oprah who follows 19 people (including her own show, her best friend Gayle, competitor Ellen and her proteges, Nate Berkus & Dr. Oz and Mr & Mrs Kutcher) not the 3.15 million who are following her. Even Twitter poster boy himself, Ashton Kutcher, the first to break the million followers mark, is only following 308 people not the 4.5 million who are following him.
Some of the smartest Internet gurus out there have admitted this publicly. Wake up and smell the… (Insert witty word that combines coffee and twitter idea here. Let me know when you think of it…) I’m all for social media. I LOVE blogging (I’ve come a long way since my first post in 2007 when I wasn’t so sure…) and I love hearing what you guys think. But let’s not delude ourselves. Your followers are NOT reading your tweets unless they are only following 19 people like the big O herself.
Am I wrong? Tell me here!
Humbly yours,
Tsufit
