One of the perks of having a business marketing & publicity blog is that I get great books sent to me to spread the word. And I love to share them with you!
I told you it was coming. Yes, it’s another Step Into The Spotlight! Business Book Giveaway.
We have 3 copies of David Meerman Scott’s (New Revised Second Edition), The New Rules of Marketing & P.R. full of the latest scoop on how to use social media, blogs, news releases, online video, viral marketing etc, everything you need to reach buyers directly online. Check out Chapter 8 about how a few Mentos and bit of Diet Coke got a couple of guys on David Letterman and The Today Show.
David Meerman Scott is an award winning marketing strategist and the first edition of this book was a Business Week Bestseller.
We only have 3 copies so if you want to be considered for one of them, there are 2 things you gotta do.
1) Enter your Name and Email in the boxes on the far right, then press the “Put Me On The List” button. (That will give me the email addresses of the 3 who are selected.)
2) Then, come back to this site and Leave a Comment* about how you’re going to use social media to step into the spotlight this year. Or if you don’t know where to begin, tell us where you’re at and maybe some of our readers will give you ideas.
You gotta do both 1) and 2) above (pretty bossy, I know!)
Three of you will get a copy of David’s wonderful new book sent to you!
DEADLINE: Thursday March 4 2010 at 5 pm EST
I’ll announce the 3 names soon thereafter, so be sure and check back here next week to see if you are one of them!

Hi,
When I “Step into the Spotlight” and given the opportunity I Travel all over the USA sharing my South African humour which Americans have never dreamed of.
I will make audiences ‘rise to heights the never hoped to attain’ with stories that will ‘knock their socks off’.

I have no concrete ideas on how I should best use social media for my agency outside of posting events on Facebook and sending meaningful articles to my clients. I always struggle with how to best position myself in front of my customer because I don’t have a product, but a service of providing training to youth ages 8-18 in the areas of etiquette, leadership, entrepreneurship and money management.
This book would certainly be a powerful addition to my armor in making social media work most effectively for me. If there are any guests here that can help with suggestions, that would be wonderful as well!

I will use the book to let the world know that I am here and can help them, move through the muck and mire of divorce and come out on the other side better than ever. I have been an advocate for health for the divorced and widowed since 2000 and have spent many hours on the trail to legislators who make the rules for insurance. I could use this book to help me market my business.

I currently use social media for publicity for my business and my Pastors in the Kindom to help them reach more people around the world to enhance their international television ministry. I build and establish relationships in a natural manner through social media to engage the audience in the support of events so they can have insight and more of a reason to support whatever event or product I happen to promote. I support others and the exchange of support fosters the relationship and networking to yield positive results. I feel the book can really help me expand my existing efforts and help me forge ahead with even more marketing intelligence.

Great parents prepare their children for the future, yet few of them know how to financially prepare their children for success. Social media will enable them to find and sign up for a fun and interactive money program for their kids, “Camp Millionaire”, offered through http://www.moneyrocks.ca.

Hi Tsufit! Well, I currently own a Website & Graphic Design company where the business is solely based on word of mouth. Why? Well, that’s what seems to work the best. But, I still feel there should be more – things aren’t going as quickly as they should. We’ve been in business for 6 years now, but still trying to figure out what else we can do to get this going. I’ve started a customer service blog but haven’t used it as I don’t know where to start. I have Twitter and Facebook accounts, but again, don’t know how to keep up. And we have an educational e-book that we want to start promoting and selling, but how? What’s the best way? I want to use social media to ‘step into the spotlight’ this year by connecting directly with groups of people online and possibly on the radio and tv, which I having been shying away from. I simply need the guidance to get me there. I am scared I will fail at making those important connections without the right tools. I would love that push to go full force!

2010 is our year to expand. We have embraced social media as a way to get into the daily life of present customers and more importantly our potential customers. We have been online with a simple straight forward website for nearly 8 years, so it was time to hit the keyboard again with LinkedIn and Facebook. Our business – Event and Party Rentals a visual game – they need to be able to see it to feel it. So this migration has been very natural for us. Can’t wait to do more reading

I truly believe social media as it is currently, is a temporary phenomenon. Everyone wants in but no one really knows HOW. So you see lots of feeble attempts at using these tools… and sadly, I feel most are misguided. The part that I hope is temporary about this phenomenon, is how everyone is sharing and blogging about what should be embarrassing behaviour: ie. drunken shots, mouth wide open tongue sticking out “I’m 40 and lovin’ it” photos in some misguided attempt to show that “yeah… I can twit, I can blog, I can face… and I am cool and hip.” Wrong. This is ALL wrong. When you are talking business, no one wants to know how your nickname is “the Print Dude” or “Sassy Sarah”. Such things do not look smart and it will in fact NOT draw you good business. If you want to use social media, then use it with this in mind “You never get a second chance for a first impression.” Because THAT in essence is all that it can be used for. Remember that you have approximately 10 to 20 seconds when someone hits your page, to impress upon them what you are all about, and in that time, they will either stay or they will go (with an opinion either way). And, if what you have to say is not impressionable in a “WOW, I need this person on my team” kind of way – or a “Wow, if only I could be as smart and successful as this guy” way. Then don’t do it. And, my desire, as a graphic designer, is to keep pushing this theory to those (clients) that actually want to “Step into their spotlight” and succeed, both financially and personally. Experimenting with your personality is meant to do at home on your kids and around the campfire with your best friends, NOT, EVER, on the internet. You will WIN or LOSE your career based on how you USE or ABUSE social media. Get informed, stay professional and act like it.
That’s my two cents. And truth be told, my two cents are trading pretty darn high these days.
Until next time.

I would love to read this book – as I know that social media (and also mainstream media) is needed for public awareness and increased business. My business of equine assisted psychotherapy is very intense and powerfully effective work but it is also still fairly new. Therefore spreading the word about the work in general is key to building a business. As more and more people learn about what the horses have to offer in the way of psychological healing and building outrageously successful life skills the more my program will thrive and ultimately do what it is intended for – helping people live better lives!
I would love a copy of this book because we are a small org and all of the outreach is grassroots and done by us alone…
Best wishes and thank you for considering us!

Also, I love your comment, “all business is show business”. I have a performance background and I realized when I heard you say that, that I need to be optimizing on my performing talents to enhance the marketing of my business, LIFE ENHANCEMENT ESSENTIALS. Even as I say this, I can feel that excited fluttering in my belly begin – the one that comes up when I’m about to step into the spotlight!

Hi Tsufit,
I am totally in the same boat as Derschaun (above) Have no idea how to promote my little business (photography)
To make matters worse, I cannot use Facebook properly,—i get lost on it, so, i do not dare to attempt Twitter, or any others. But, I feel frustrated, because i would like to be able to use these and other tools that are so effective, but don’t know how. I feel technologically “challenged” H_E_L_P !!!!!!!!!!!!
So obviously, i have a great need for a book dealing with the modern methods of marketing a business.
Wish me luck,—but if i don’t win, please tell me where I can buy the book in question.
Many thanks,
Lisa Mininni

Twitter is the easiest thing going Lisa. Just go to Twitter.com, sign up and start spreading the news!
You can grab David’s book at Amazon.com and I’m sure it’s available at Chapters or Indigo as well.
Lynn, not sure I hate Print Dude as much as you do but you do have a point. Keep the comments coming and do tell your friends about the book giveaway!

I’m going to try to use Twitter to share ideas on better communication and creativity. I’ve also set a goal to update my blog at least a couple times a week. Finally, I have a couple of ebooks that I’m going to promote on Twitter, on my blog, and in Facebook and LinkedIn. (I’ve been far too lax in tooting my own horn; “you’re not supposed to do that” doncha know.)

Tsufit’s book helped me to understand that ‘stepping into the spotlight’ was another level of my business strategy and didn’t have to be something negative. Healthy promotion Vs. Ego-maniacal bragging. I have used Tsufit’s face to face tips online to step into the spotlight! They have helped me to expand my network, provide value strategically and source ways to meet people I’d never “bump into” offline. Thank you Tsufit!

I have been using social media for a number of years now, but have not taken full advantage of everything it has to offer.
It has been a fabulous medium for making and keeping in touch with contacts- past, present and future.
I find Facebook very useful, am still new on Twitter, but Linkedin has been a fantastic business tool for me so far. Definitely one of the better, more professional business networking sites around.
I would love to gain more insight into other social networking sites and social media, to see other ways I might be able to promote and grow my businesses.

Our company this year is planning on doing more work with the design and development of experiences using touch based technologies geared towards the consumer market (i.e Iphone Applications), fully integrating social media into everything we do, of course.
Good luck to everyone.

Skating along the edge of a nervous breakdown is no-one’s idea of a great time so I’ve dedicated my business as a freelance copywriter to eliminating stress in the lives of my clients. The insights I might gain from “The New Rules of Marketing and PR” will help me be even more effective in dissolving the evil worry lines plaguing businesspeople in this fair land because language and knowledge are a powerful combination. Learning more about today’s marketing environment will help me do my job with ever more excellence. And that, after all, should by the purpose of business.

I’ve been using social media the best way I can with what I know now to step into the spotlight, posting my blog posts and interacting with people. I recently purchased a program that promises to help me improve my blog.
However, I’m looking for more ways to do this… that’s why I entered this contest! David’s book will certainly hold clues and strategies to boost my efforts.
Thanks for holding this contest, Tsufit!
