Jeff Bridges Thanks His Stand-In at Golden Globes

blog golden globeHow often does it happen? A guy wins a Golden Globe for best actor in a movie and thanks his stand-in, a guy named Lloyd. The guy deserves the thank-you as much as all the pretty actors; Bridges said that Lloyd has been his stand-in in over 60 films. But how often does it happen?

Not much. ‘Cause stand-ins don’t command a lot of respect. They’re the guys that stand on the set for hours so the lighting guy can set up the shot while the big star is in the trailer drinking pina coladas.

Don’t let your business be a stand-in, a generic place-holder. Step into the spotlight! Be the genuine article, irreplaceable.

(I had to write this post to justify spending 2 hours watching the thank-fest. Only the ‘caustic irreverence of MC, Ricky Gervais, (but dude, your inadequacy jokes were NOT funny) and Robert Downey Jr.’s “I’ve got no one to thank” broke up the saccharin for a few seconds, but only a few ’cause even Downey wimped out in the end with the requisite thank you’s.)
