Microsoft Throws in the Towel

Cheaper? Are you kidding me?
MAC came up with a branding strategy years ago and stuck with it.
Microsoft has been flailing all over the place. From Seinfeld to “I’m a PC” to this???
The recession is temporary. The damage from positioning itself as the cheap computer could be permanent.

PS Lauren says it all when she admits (although I guess it was intended to be sarcastic) “I guess I’m not cool enough to be a MAC person.”
PPS I use a PC, but I’m definitely a MAC.

  1. It’s not an acroynm. Mac is short for MacIntosh.

  2. Not cool enough to own a Mac. People are not smart enough to own something that works. While she is beating on her computer to work, when it locks up on her, and you know vista will. I will still be working away.

  3. Windows has its issues but unfortunately if you are in business, most people work on PCs so you have to use the system.

I don’t think Microsoft positioning themselves as a less expensive option is a bad thing. People shopped at Walmart and Costco before the recession and I don’t think they are going to stop when the recession is over. Many people unfortunately want cheap, so I don’t think this positioning is going to hurt them.

My PC didn’t cost under $1,000; I actually had it custom-built so the PC with monitor was a bit more expensive than the iMac I bought last year.

There are people who want to buy steak and there are people who want hamburger and that will never change.

  4. Yeah… it cost under $1,000… but it’ll probably break in a week… or get a virus or crash over and over… have fun with it!

  6. Actually Julia, many businesses are switching to MACS so that argument is losing steam.

  7. Love the Mac vs. PC topic. Almost like a religion to the Mac-ites. PC’ers are usually less passionate about it but I guess they vote with their wallets.
    Thanks for the comments guys.

  8. what a big deal…
so microsoft is trying to position itself a little different. Fine. It is just a bit sad that Microsoft is going after Mac all the time. Must be complex by now.

Still it is hard to understand why corporations, and people keep using Microsoft operation system, if they think it is soooo bad.

I only can think of one reason, hard to change habits and much harder to take the extra effort to relearn.

It is true for me, I learned on a Mac while in school and ever since I work only on a Mac. I am to lazy to change, even so I sometimes have to use a few PC programs, I get back as fast as I can to my Mac operating system.
