Better Than Advertising! You Don’t Have to Be Brilliant to Pull This Off!

It never ceases to amaze me how easily companies manage to get ink and cyber ink for stuff that is nothing more than a blatant advertisement. In Chapter 5 of Step Into The Spotlight! (hey, if they can do it, so can I!), I share the story of the WonderBra Multi-Plunge Bra (Page 230) stunt that got tons of media attention and the Hershey’s “Top 10 Kisses on Film” stunt. (Page 231). Now Zale Corporation is grabbing a piece of the Valentine’s Day pie with its “Profess Your Love” contest.

With companies cutting ad budgets in recessionary times, it may be something you can pull off too. All you have to do is send out a press release through newswire services like PR Newswire, ask contestants to profess their love in interesting ways, fly the finalists to Time Square for a second round of public professing, bring in 5 romance experts as judges, give away a a 2-carat Celebration Diamond solitaire ring and off you go!
