Buzzword Bingo

Once again, I wish I could pull my book from the bookstore shelves and scribble something in the margins. On page 97, I list 18 words and phrases which you should never use in business. But I never heard of Buzzword Bingo, a favorite pastime in boardrooms boredrooms across America. It’s been around for over 10 years, but apparently I never got the memo.
Dilbertian in origin, according to management writer, F. John Reh, employees make up bingo cards filled with the buzzwords they anticipate the boss man will say in his next boring speech to the troops. As the inevitable words pop out, words like deliverables, optimization, paradigm, the worker bees cross off the word on the card, until they have 5 in a row. A winning card is announced with a cough (“Bingo!” might get you fired) and I’m sure, some smothered laughter.
How ’bout, Buzzword Bingo: High School Edition. Just collect the teacher’s favorite expressions and prepare to be coughed on. Too cool for school…

Buzzword Bingo has indeed been around for more than 10 years. I recall playing it in the late 80′s, (dating myself here) in a couple of different formats.
Ah, the nostalgia for the joys of a misspent business youth.

Wayne,
While you were playing Buzzword Bingo, I was learning Lawyer Lingo. Thankfully, I’ve now forgotten most of it.
Respectfully yours,
The party of the first part.
PS. Looking forward to joining you on Blog Talk Radio tomorrow night!
