The Casting of an Americian President–All Biz is Show Biz

Perhaps we should let Randy, Paula and Simon decide the outcome of the US presidential election.
Almost a year ago, I wrote an article called The Casting of an American President, all about how ALL business really is show business, especially politics. Little did I know at the time how Vegas the Hillary vs. Obama show was gonna get. (By the way, do you guys have any Republicans running?)
Politics has always been more about marketing than ideals. I guess the Democrats are trying to make up for sending stiff cardboard characters to the presidential auditions the last 2 rounds. This time, in 2008, it’s all about entertainment. Obama and Hillary have both appeared on Saturday Night Live. They’ve both made the rounds on Letterman. Hillary’s been on Tyra and Jon Stewart’s Daily Show. How should we feel about all this? Stewart asked Hillary. Here’s what she said.
The “kiss-kiss-sit-on-the-couch” thing on late night TV is one thing. I was even slightly amused as I found myself involuntarily replaying the almost cultish O-ba-ma reggae song in my head this morning while shovelling the driveway. But I don’t know whether to be moved (in an “I Have a Dream” kinda way) or creeped out by the Obama film fest. Check it out.
Now there’s talk about them running together. One thing’s for sure. Boring won’t get you into the big white house. How’s that for an inconvenient truth?
