Forget 30 Seconds!

How much time does it take to sell your widget? On page 136 of my upcoming book (April 2008), I report that commercials are getting shorter. Forget 30 seconds. These new format radio and TV spots, “Blinks”, are just 1-3 seconds long. Well the book’s not even at the printer yet and already I’m being proven wrong.
They’re getting loooooooooonnnnnnngggggger. At least in Spain. Ad Age reports that JWT Spain got film director Martin Scorcese to create a 9 minute film commercial for Freixenet Champagne. It’s called “A Key to Reserva”. [I've been in a European film commercial. (I'm the one dancing with red peppers.) Took us 3 long days and nights to film a 60 second spot. Bet this one took months.]
It’s a commercial within a commercial disguised as a documentary. Throw in a little Hitchcock and…hard to explain. Check it out above.
