The Continuity Department

On every movie set, there’s a department called “Continuity”. The department usually consists of a woman (see her there on the right?) with a clipboard and a polaroid. It’s her job to make sure that if the guy’s shirt was tucked in his pants on Take 2, it’s still tucked in on take 12 so that the editors can piece the movie together later. My kids love continuity flaws in movies, ie a sleeve rolled up in part of the scene suddenly down–I guess it’s left over from their Where’s Waldo days. So here’s the thing. Every business should have a continuity department as well.
In my October 4 post, I pointed out that Unilever, the company behind Dove’s ”campaign for real beauty” also sells Slim Fast with women in bikinis. Two weeks after that post, a new video emerged that slams parodies the Dove flick by throwing the Axe at ‘em. Scroll down to Oct 4 to see original Unilver video and then head on over to You Tube to check out the parody. It ends by satirizing Dove’s powerful “Talk to your daughters before the beauty industry does” with “Talk to your daughters before Dove does”. Being the project manager for 4 daughters, this issue is a biggie around here. But the lesson for business is “Don’t get caught with your pants down!”
